A brace from Jules Cinotti saw us luckily progress through to Round 2 of the AFA Challenge cup

SCFC 3-2 OLD UFFINGTONIANS
Cinotti x2, Scholes

County entertained Old Uffingtonians from Senior 3 North. Another selection nightmare with 9 1st team players unavailable for the game. Compounded by 2s player call ups crying off. It was only Friday afternoon when debutantes Patrick Tyldsley and Alex Scholes cried on and brought our squad to 12.

A game that we could, if not should have lost but we scraped through, after a brace from Jules Cinotti and a debutant winner from Alex Scholes saw us progress.

County started with a 4-4-2 formation, with Tom Case having to don the gloves and kicking off left to right.

We started brightly and on 3 minutes, a corner led to a John Bellinger half chance but he headed wide.

8 minutes in and debutant Patrick Tyldsley saw his sharp shot go wide. Then another corner and Jon Bellinger had a better chance but headed over.

Going forward we looked good but when Old Uffs had the ball we were slow in picking up, runners and very slow in getting bodies behind the ball. This was hampered by us giving silly procession away.

Then on 14 minutes we got punished. Slow to get back and pick up runners, saw Bradley Doherty too easily beaten and the Old Uffs player finished well. 0-1

A couple of crosses and half chances came and went, then another corner saw a Neil Spackman header cleared off the line.

Between these chances, Old Uffs could have doubled their lead as we continued to lack the work rate needed to stop sides playing. Too much space allows teams to play and we were defiantly giving them to much.

33 minutes and we were punished. A sloppy middle of the park pass gave away procession in our half and a simple, quick pass saw the Old Uffs player 1 on 1 and he finished well. 0-2. Pretty much what our work rate and marking had deserved.

We need to step up and a little bit of magic to spur us on.

Then on 36 minutes Jules Cinotti sweetly let fly form 25 yards and saw he shot nestle into the bottom corner. 1-2. Back in the game.

Final action of the half, saw a James Lamont header saved.

HALF-TIME - 1 - 2

We were good going forward and could create chances but needed to work much harder when Old Uffs had the ball

A scrappy start saw Jules Cinotti shoot wide.

We then spent the next the next 20 minutes chasing Old Uffs. A Bradley Doherty goal line clearance and a Tom Case save kept us in the game. We were poor!

Then against the run of play a huge boot from Tom Case found Jules Cinotti, with the ball bouncing he managed to beat both his defender and the keeper and headed the ball into the open goal. 2-2 Not pretty but we had somehow got level.

Sub - Ricky Ghoudelbourk replaced Patrick Tyldsley

Spurred, the goal gave the guys belief. We started to play the ball around. 73 minutes and a Damo Obrien cross found Ricky Ghoudelbourk at the back post, he calmly headed back into the box and with the ball bouncing Alex Scholes half volleyed into the goal. 3-2

A couple of half chances at either end saw the game out

FULL-TIME 3 - 2

A lucky win but a much needed one. We defiantly had some luck today but still ground out the win. We need to step up for next weekend as were back to league action.

Thanks to the 2s for helping us out.

MoM - Jules Cinotti - A couple of goals and gave us that little piece of magic and spark that we needed.

Donkey - Damo Proto - Gave the ball away far too much.
