It is my sad duty to report that Bob Morley has passed away. A stalwart for SCFC, SCCC and SOSA for many, many years.

Bob was a founder member of Southgate Compton, having been a Compton player previously prior to the merger in 1970. He was Captain of the Saturday 2nd X1 for 10 years and was an opening medium pace bowler and effective lower middle order batsman. When he stopped playing cricket in the 1980’s he was the First X1 League umpire for several seasons and then umpired the 2nd X1. He was also involved in the running of the colts when they were set up. He was Chairman of the Cricket Club for 10 years and eventually became The President and he was the instigator of President’s Day. When he stepped down from this role he was made a Life Vice President. He was a playing member of the Annual Tour and even when he retired from playing continued to go until 10 years ago.

On the Administration front he was for many years Treasurer of Southgate Scholars Association which involved producing the annual accounts and bar reconciliation, a post which he stood down from only 5 years ago. He also played football for Southgate County Old Boys retiring from the game in the late 1970’s.

Bob was a Spurs and Middlesex supporter who was happy to discuss either of these sides at the bar over a pint. He was always good company with an amusing story or observation and he will be sadly missed .

The family have requested that if people wish that donations be made to Enfield Respiratory Service and Julie will have a collection box at the funeral for this purpose. If people also want to send flowers that is fine, the COOP funeral service in Lancaster Road Enfield is handling the arrangements and they can be delivered there
His funeral will take place 25th July at Enfield Crematorium at 12.30 and the wake will be held at the club where I am sure many stories of him will be recounted.
