Southgate County 1 – 2 Southgate Olympic
(Mason)
This was an incredibly frustrating game. Again we had a fully fit squad; too many players in fact, meaning difficult decisions to be made! However the very late arrival of a number of players meant the start was a complete shambles.
We actually did really well in the first half hour despite being totally up against things; we stayed compact and organised but then had a mad 5 minutes. We gave away a soft penalty, I’m not sure many refs would have given it but we found ourselves 1 down. We were then guilty of 4 or 5 consecutive mistakes that ended in an own goal and us 2 down. We composed ourselves and saw the half out at 2 down.
The second half was more like the first half hour; we were compact and tidy but just didn’t have the composure on the ball that we had the week before. We pulled a stunning goal back after 65 minutes but despite a couple of half chances never looked sure of equalising. Olympic probably had the better chances to score.
A really frustrating game as with better preparation I am convinced we could have got something from it. Man of the match was Mason who worked tirelessly for 90 minutes; regularly working back to help out the team whilst putting in a great shift going forward despite being fairly isolated for much of the game.
