It was a fantastic turnout yesterday in memory of Phil with a squad of 22 to choose from . The starting line up was packed full of experience with county legends, Payney, Browny , Clive , Normi, Phil Bowles , Andy Adie and Chopper Lamont along with Phil’s son Matt making which we hope is not their last appearance! ? With many more watching from the sidelines .
We started the game well moving the ball nicely and it looked like either payney or browny up front were gonna turn back the clock and get on the score sheet , but the final ball or that burst of pace was just missing !
The younger legs of woods started causing us problems and despite some staunch defending from a back four with an average age of ~60 and many great saves from Mickey ‘Whoosh’ Lewis we went in at HT 0-1 down .
At half time the county legends gave way to some younger legs , we even changed the keeper with Nyles (lord lucan) Mullen replacing the impressive Mickey Lewis such was the competition for places .
We created a number of good chances in the second half which drew some good saves from the woods keeper ( he still plays for their 1’s) , and we eventually drew level through a nice goal from ish .
The rest of the half was reasonably even , Nyles made a number of good saves , but was unfortunately beaten towards the end to make it 1-2 . Matrix , Dec, Woody went close, and for one moment we thought a 100yrd run by cliffy was going to result in an equaliser but sadly it wasn’t to be . Final score 1-2
All in all it was a great turnout and a great performance, the legends did themselves and Phil proud and it was great to see them in a county shirt again!
