Enfield Grammar Vets 1 - Southgate County Vets - 5
Spackman, Oliver, Wright x2, OG
Venue - Enfield Grammar School
Some Sunday morning cry offs. Instead of hangovers like years gone by it was our little ones feeling poorly. How times have changed. County still managed to pull together a very strong squad, with Stef Mrs due to drop at anytime.
The pitch had areas with surface water and a tad boggy, but the game needed to be played. So we kicked off.
County started this match playing into a strong wind but withheld the opening salvo’s from EOG. Against the run of play County went ahead courtesy of a ridiculous OG on 6 mins. EOG restored the balance on 40 mins, 1-1. HT 1 - 1
Second half County had the wind and rain behind them and went ahead through Spackman on 54 mins, 2-1. He hit this one with his right foot. We've not heard the last of this one! After this goal he then shot at every opportunity. The wind continued and rain became hail then sleet but Oliver made it 3-1 on 63 mins. A fine move and cross, saw Oliver head home. Wright made it 4-1 on 78 and 5-1 on 80 with some clinical finishes. FT 1 - 5
A good morning out for County, an enjoyable match and well refereed by the 3 officials. Us spectators got absolutely soaked apart from Chairman Cliff who was protected by his ‘robe’, I know, WTF is one of them. Good luck to our ‘young’ vets in the next round, a QF, at home against Old Aloysians. (29th Jan)
